Another win for the Portsmouth Dreadnoughts Senior Team on Sunday over the Maidstone Pumas was highlighted by a number of outstanding individual performances who were rewarded by being selected as MVPs.
Team MVP was awarded to Running Back Will Purkiss. Taking on the brunt of the carries for the offense, Purkiss scored once on the ground and kept the chains moving.
Receiver Jake Smith was selected as Offensive MVP. Once again a threat as both a runner and a receiver, Smith picked up his second Offensive MVP award of the season.
Linebacker Murat Gumus was chosen as Defensive MVP. Opening the scoring with an early pick six, Gumus was excellent in all phases of the game.
Defensive Back Dale Anchor earned Special Teams MVP after a fantastic game on punt and kickoff. Frequently making a tackle on the returner, Anchor was a crucial part in winning the field position battle against Maidstone.
The Play of the Game was chosen as Punter George Evans outstanding recovery in the first quarter. After recovering a high snap, Evans escaped the Maidstone rush to deliver a booming kick that finished inside the Maidstone 20 and set up the defense with great field position.
