Sundays game was a landmark win for the Portsmouth Dreadnoughts Senior Team against the Hertfordshire Cheetahs with a number of outstanding performances.
Team MVP was awarded to Linebacker George Evans. Evans was all over the field on defense, making a number of tackles in the Hertfordshire backfield. As the teams Kicker and Punter, he also had a great game putting the defense in good field position. These were not even his most significant contributions of the day, as Evans also came out of the game with two interceptions, including a game-sealing pick six.
The Offensive MVP was Running Back Patrick Kanyinda. Adding another strong performance to his season, Kanyinda was a crucial cog in keeping the chains moving throughout the game as well as scoring the Dreadnoughts first touchdown of the game.
Defensive Lineman Aldo Navarro was awarded the Defensive MVP. Facing the top offense in the Division, Navarro lead the charge from the front, shutting down the hard-running Cheetahs throughout the game.
Long Snapper Tom Usai was chosen as the Special Teams MVP. Stepping up in the place of regular Snapper Toby Doyle, Usai was consistent and allowed the Punt unit to continue to function well.
The Play of the Game was an easy choice, George Evans’ pick six in the fourth quarter. The Cheetahs attempted a screen pass which was jumped by Evans, who took it all the way for the score as the Dreadnoughts sideline erupted. This gave Portsmouth a 14-7 lead, with the following two point conversion ensuring it was a two score game and setting the platform for the win.
