LATEST NEWS - Portsmouth Dreadnoughts Win 23 - 12 Hertfordshire Cheetahs | 15th July

New Player Information

The Portsmouth Dreadnoughts are an American Football team based at Havant Rugby Club. Join us now on our path to a championship!

In 2017 the team finished with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses and went to the playoffs, losing in the second round. This year, we aim to go one step further and gain promotion to Division 1.

The majority of our roster had never played American Football before they joined the Dreadnoughts, so don’t let that put you off if you want to give it a try!

The Senior Team practices twice per week, from 10am-1pm on Sundays and from 7.30pm-9.15pm on Wednesdays. Practices are held at Havant RFC, unless stated otherwise. The coaching staff decide playing time based on performance at practice, so you if you show up and ball out then you’ll be sure to see the field come gameday!

Please ensure you bring water, a gum shield and suitable footwear when coming to practice. We practice on grass so football boots with plastic studs are best. No blades, metal or metal tipped studs are allowed.

Your first three sessions with the club are free, after which you will need to register on the BAFA Portal. Registration with the league provides you with basic insurance and gets you on to the club roster to play in games.

Preseason starts in January running through to April. The season itself is from April to August, with the Playoffs in August/September.

There is an annual subscription fee of £220, which can either be paid in instalments or in full for a discount. This includes away game travel and equipment rental as well as free gym access and a discounted physiotherapist. If you are currently playing for a University American Football team, there are reduced annual subs of £144.

We have Helmets and Shoulder Pads available for use. Should you want to buy your own kit, there is a discount for Dreadnoughts members with a local supplier.

The team is run by its Management Committee, who are responsible for the club’s off field activities. The Club Chair is Shaun Clulow. The Coaching Staff are responsible for the club on the field, led by Head Coach Luke Head-Rapson.

Outside of football, regular social events are also arranged throughout the year such as a Super Bowl party and Christmas social.
